Thank God some people think positive

SC commented - "Ours is a secular country. Every community is supposed to behave in a civilized manner". The occasion was the hearing of joint petition of Nizama Bai and her husband Sheikh Ser Mohammad, who uttered 'talaq' in an inebriated condition. Both husband and wife want to live together. But religious leaders are forcing them to live separately as husband has given talaq to the wife, even if it was in an inebriated condition. As per their interpretation of religion these two people can not live together as husband and wife. So they went to court for relief.

SC told the couple that they can live together - "You have a right to live together". To religious leaders and other negative-thinking people of muslim community SC cautioned, "Community should not be allowed to behave in such a manner".

Today I read a news which made me feel happy. Even in congress, a party with negative mind set, a minister thinks in positive manner.

Kapil Sibal, Science & Technology Minister in UPA government, said at the Hannover Technoligy Fair, "No policy initiative should be taken to dilute the level of excellence in reaserach and development and educational institutions which will negatively impact our ability to compete in the global economy.". It is a refreshing thinking in the negative reservation environment in the government where Human Resource Minister is pushing for reserving 27% seats for OBCs in IITs, IIMs and Universities.

Another good news today.

Members of IIT-K Alumni Association have resolved to develop a corpus worth several billion dollars by pooling in US $ 10000 each and help the underprivalaged and downtrodden. They will set up educational and training institues in areas where government agencies have failed to reach so far. This will benefit those for whom anti-HRD minister Arjun Singh intends to introduce fresh quota. This affirmative action to train and educate weaker sections is a better option than reservation.

Why Arjun Singh could not see this simple solution? He is a politician and a politician can not think positive. To think positive a politician has to first become a human being.

Arjun Singh has complained to Manmohan Singh about Kapil Sibal. What Manmohan Singh will do, dismiss Sibal from his cabinet? If he can think positive then he should dismiss Arjun Shing who is totally unfit for the job he has been given. He is fit to be anti-HRD minister.

Some positive thinking by doctors on quota issue:
Dr. T S Kler, Escorts - The government is doing this only to generate a vote bank. People need to be lifted from the rut but reservations should not be caste based. They should be based on a person's economic condition. The government should provide 10+2 education to everyone and then let them compete on an equal footing.
Dr. Sanjeev Bagai, Rockland - Supporting weaker sections is justified. But reservation in super-specaility courses, and at such a high percentage, is not justified. India has a dearth of professionals and needs more colleges and seats. Children should be supported till class XII, and if they have it in them, they will make it on their own after that.
Dr. Anoop Misra, Fortis - There is absolutely no room for mediocre people in this field. While other countries are making their filtering process tight, India is moving in the other direction. The police brutality was disgusting. Is this how the best brains of the country will be treated when they are protesting peacefully.
Dr. Naresh Trehan, Escorts - What we need are more schools and free education for all uo to class XII. The govt should let all play on a level field. For those banking on reservation, there will be no incentive to excel. Reservations should not be allowed in super-speciality courses as a single mistake could prove to be fatal.

Some more positive views –

Rita Mishra (Parent) – My kids are doctors, and as parents, we put in a lot of effort to educate them. It pains me to see how they have been treated by police.

Suresh Mehta (Businessman) – Govt overlooks the large number of OBCs at higher rungs in politics, the fact that their kids study in the best boarding schools.

Sudharsan (Parent) – Our fight is as much for the backward classes as it is for us. We want genuine cases to come up, giving them crutches is not the solution.

At school and colleges, where children can grow up disregarding such issues, Arjun Singh wants resentment against a certain category of people.

Shiv Khera, the management guru, has rejected reservation policy and termed it s “atrocious, anti-national, unpatriotic and treacherous which tantamounts to dividing the nation for petty personal gains….Everybody is human, no one should be divided into mane-made SC/ST/OSC categories”.

Inder Bahadur, an SC candidate from Hindu college but who did not avail reservation quota, says “Why should I claim the benefits of reservation when I have been through the same educational system as my general caste buddies. The minister is trying to impose the ‘divide and rule’ policy”.

Vikas Yadav, a student of Ramjas college, says “Availing of quota tantamounts to walking on crutches”.

Satish Kumar, an OBC candidate from Alllahabad, says “Give reservation to the economically-backward students, why shower benefits to the affluent”.

Positive thinking makes one successful. See for yourself –
K. P. Singh, Chairman DLF Group & in reckoning as the second richest India says –
a) I believe the successful running of a business is based on a strong foundation of values and ethics. Never compromise on principles of fair play, ethics and value for the customer.
b) It is also important to make your customers your partners in progress so that they also gainfully share in the benefits of the business.
c) Another important guiding principle to me has been that two wrongs don’t make one right. Therefore, I believe in trying to amend laws and change them for the better rather than bending or deviation from laid down norms and laws of the land.
d) Enjoy whatever you are doing and be contented with it. Otherwise, you will not be able to do justce either to your own needs or to the profession you are pursuing.

Deepak Parekh, Head Honcho of HDFC, spells out his BIZ Mantra;
a) A sense of purpose, hardwork and commitment
b) Integrity is important specially as money is our raw material
c) Believe in the potential of people, Create leaders
d) Excel in customer service by offering value-added solutions
e) Provide customers an experience they can not forget
f) Open door policy helps. Share information with colleagues
g) Inspire people to make a difference in their own lives.

Has PM said anything new? Has GOM on reservation come out with any new and effective long-term proposal? NO, the answer is one word, NO. They have only attempted to loose sight of the real issue. I believe that the purpose was to only find a short-term solution with which both sides can be pleased. A typical political strategy which is neither in the interest of the society nor the students.

The only sane voice is coming from students – review reservation policy, find other effective long-term solutions to the real issue – providing equal opportunities to all. Reservation is not an equal opportunity. It only shifts the opportunity from one group to another. Before reservation, one group cries for equal opportunities. After reservation, other group cries for equal opportunities. PM and his ministers call it social justice. It is only shifting injustice from one group to the other group. PM says that his govt. is committed to 27% reservation to OBCS. It is nothing but willfull misplaced commitment with an eye on votes.

PM HAS ONCE AGAIN FAILED THE PEOPLE.
